Carbon Removal from
Agriculture in India.
Why
CarbonGuru.Earth?
Farmer-First Orientation
We are obsessively focused on solving smallholder farmers’ challenges. Every solution is rooted in local context and designed from first principles. If it doesn’t improve farmer ROI, it doesn’t scale.
Impact per Acre
We maximize carbon sequestration per acre, turning farmland into a long-term carbon sink — with the smallholder farmer as its steward. Every hectare counts toward prosperity and the planet.
Technology That Serves
We deploy AI, soil testing, and remote sensing as farmer-first tools. These technologies help tailor biochar enrichment, guide farm decisions, and deliver precise, scalable climate action. Tech is not the identity — it’s the enabler.
Stewardship Through Leaders
We build climate stewardship from the ground up. Our “Guru Farmer” model empowers trusted smallholder leaders who prove the value of biochar and enriched yields. As they succeed, their peers follow — awareness spreads, adoption grows, and communities transform organically.
Self-Sustaining Ecosystems
We are building ecosystems that don’t stop when credit prices fall. By anchoring projects in farmer ROI, and connecting input providers, FPOs, and local stakeholders, we ensure adoption compounds over time. The system keeps moving because it is profitable, practical, and resilient — not dependent on external subsidies.
What we do
We transform India’s agri-residue crisis into a climate and livelihood solution.
CarbonGuru.Earth develops high-integrity, smallholder-led biochar projects that remove carbon while improving farm yields. By combining soil testing, remote sensing, and AI-driven advisory, we tailor biochar enrichment to each crop and soil, ensuring maximum ROI for farmers.
We build self-sustaining ecosystems where smallholder farmers, FPOs, input providers, local organizations, buyers, and investors work together. This ensures adoption grows organically, driven by yield gains and farmer prosperity — not just carbon credit prices.
Our mission is to combat climate change by empowering India’s 100+ million small and marginal farmers to become long-term climate stewards, creating prosperity for themselves and resilience for their communities.
Our Standards
Our Approach to solve the climate-agriculture crisis is framework-agnostic, highly pragmatic,
and long-term oriented – keeping stakeholders at the core.
Biochar Deployment
We convert agricultural residues and invasive biomass into stable biochar through controlled pyrolysis. This biochar is then applied to soil, enhancing fertility and locking away carbon for centuries. Our process is optimized for smallholder contexts, ensuring co-benefits like improved crop productivity and reduced input dependency.
Organic & Regenerative Agriculture
By promoting organic inputs and regenerative techniques such as cover cropping, residue retention, and composting, we help farmers build long-term soil carbon stocks. These practices also improve water retention, biodiversity, and resilience to climate stress.
Agroforestry Systems
We support farmers in integrating trees into cropping systems—providing both carbon sequestration and diversified income streams through timber, fruits, nuts, or fodder. Species selection is tailored to regional ecology and community needs, ensuring long-term adoption.
Enhanced Rock Weathering
Crushed silicate rocks are applied to farmland, accelerating natural mineral weathering processes that remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. This method also improves soil pH and nutrient availability, offering agronomic benefits alongside carbon drawdown.
Clean Cookstove-Based Carbon Removal
We deploy high-efficiency, clean-burning cookstoves that reduce biomass fuel consumption and produce biochar as a byproduct. This approach reduces indoor air pollution, improves household health, and enables decentralized carbon removal through daily cooking practices.
Impact
India’s 100 million+ smallholder farmers, cultivating less than 2 hectares, are the backbone of the nation’s food security and rural economy, yet climate change induced extreme weather events in the last decade have impacted over 60% of them. Escalating climate threats such as extreme heat, drought, and flooding put their livelihoods and the millions they employ at risk. With farming becoming increasingly unattractive due to limited access to modern technology and financial support, urgent action is needed.
To secure their future, farmers require income diversification, and sustainable practices that reduce dependence on costly agricultural inputs, to rejuvenate soil health for improved yields and long-term climate resilience.
